Structure and Function
Our backs are a decisive factor in the structure of our movement apparatus: Thanks to its connecting stabilising functions and, at the same time, the flexibility of the spinal column and muscles, we can stand up straight, bend, stretch and turn. Moreover, the spine protects out most sensitive neural pathway, the spinal column. Composed of 24 independently flexible vertebrae, such as the sacrum and the coccyx, the spinal column is sub-divided into cervical, thoracic and lumbar-regions. Thanks to its S-formed curvature, it also acts as a vertical shock absorber.
Complaints
Almost all of us suffer from back problems at some point in our lives. There are many reasons for this; congenital reasons, strain on one side of the back and muscular imbalance, demanding physical labour, obesity and incorrect patterns of movement through to a bad diet and psychosomatic problems should all be taken into consideration during consultation. Only after an accurate diagnosis can a successful therapy be found.
Dr. von Stefenelli combines preventative measures, precise diagnosis and a treatment plan that is tailored to suit your individual needs.
Infiltration technique
Through this special therapy, points of pain are ‘infiltrated’ by local anaesthetic. This therapy is known as therapeutic local anaesthetic or, according to other approaches, neural therapy.
Chirotherapy or manual Therapy
Through chirotherapy or manual therapy, the mobility of joints which are affected by motor blocks is stimulated through manipulation of the spinal column. Depending on the principle which is applied, repeated stretching with brisk or short movements and frequency often restores complete mobility.
Electrotherapy
Personally and therapeutically measured quantities of stimulating flows promote the nerve and muscle functions, leading to regeneration of the treated area.
Hydrotherapy
The mechanical stimulation produced by the effect of water on the skin as well as its properties of thermal conduction are applied in hydrotherapy in order to balance the regulatory functions of the body.
Local Warm Therapy
Through localised treatment and the heating of active ingredients, hay and mud packs produce a therapeutic effect. The hay applications are relaxing, ease cramps, check inflammation and are particularly well-suited to the treatment of rheumatic complaints while the mud packs, on the other hand, are well-known for their moisturising properties as well as their regenerating and stimulating effect on the body.
Massage
Through the application of a variety of manual techniques, a mechanical influence on the skin, connective tissue and muscle is created by the stimulation provoked by stretching, pulling and pressure techniques. The effects of the massage radiate from the treated area through the whole body and also have a beneficial effect on the psyche. Depending on the type of massage used, painful tensions or stiffness are released, while relaxing or aroma therapy oil massages boost the general well-being levels of the body.
Spinal Column Gymnastics
Spinal column gymnastics, both active and passive, are the ideal conclusion to other therapies and are extremely effective in the alleviation of back pain. After having learned these methods, you can easily follow a spinal column gymnastics program at home.
All physio-therapeutic treatments (massages, partial packs etc.) are available from Monday to Friday, while medical therapies and doctor’s consultations are available from Tuesday to Friday.
